How to Stay Motivated...In 5 Simple Steps

Psssst! Hey you! Yeah, Y O U! Are you struggling to stay motivated these days? If so, you definitely aren’t the only one. Promise! Especially if you’re a working mom. As a working mom myself, I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I found myself sitting down in front of my computer to work and instead got distracted with something like social media, online streaming, or the never ending pile of dirty dishes and laundry in my house (Seriously! Does anyone else here feel like those two things never end?!) all within a matter of minutes. Can I hear an amen? Or can I hear an A-freaking-MEN?!

Why is it that when we have so much to do as working moms, we instead find ourselves doing anything but working? When it comes to staying motivated, saying the struggle is real would be quite the understatement I think. But, the good thing is that there are some easy solutions to staying motivated. Which is pretty darn amazing because feeling unmotivated can trigger feelings of guilt, stress, or laziness. Three things none of us hard working mamas need to add to our already full plate. So what exactly is the secret sauce to staying motivated you might ask? Well hold on to your fedoras ladies because I’m going to tell you right now!

How to Stay Motivated…In 5 Simple Steps

Helping all you incredible working moms stay motivated is suuuuper important to me. So if you’re looking for ways to stay motivated and get s*&$ done then look no further because the following advice is just what you need!

1. Money Shouldn’t be Your Motivator

Many of us think money will be our motivator. Which may work initially. However, if you are working only for the money, but you dread the work you’re doing, you will find that no amount of money can keep you motivated to get things accomplished. So, if you want to stay motivated with the work you do, make sure you are doing something you enjoy doing.

2. Set Personal Goals

Goals are a great way to help you stay motivated. Instead of setting goals based around what you think you should do, make sure that the goals you set are ones that you actually want to do. This way, you will be happy with what you are working towards and have a greater desire to stay motivated so you can reach your goals.

3. Break Down your Tasks into Smaller Pieces

If you have too many large tasks on your ‘To-Do’ list, you will quickly become overwhelmed and begin to loose any motivation you once had. So, to keep yourself motivated, try breaking down your larger tasks into smaller, more task-oriented goals and make sure to set a personal deadline. For example-If one of your work tasks is to plan an event, start by saying something like, “First, I’m going to find my venue, make a guest list, choose a caterer,” etc. Doing this can make even your biggest tasks seem easier to achieve.

4. Get Organized

Physical and mental organization can play a HUGE part in staying motivated. Which means if you are working from a home office you should do your best to keep that space clutter free so that instead of focusing on the mess around you, your brain can focus on the work you need to get done. The same goes for your brain too. If it’s cluttered up with work projects, ideas, etc. you are going to have a hard time knowing what to focus on first. So a great way to better organize your thoughts is by writing down or talking out every work related thought that you have stored away in brain. Doing this will help clear up and better organize a lot of mental space and help you stay more motivated every time you sit down to work.

5. Be Consistent AND Stay Optimistic

Ok, I know I should technically say there are six simple steps to staying motivated; but I feel like consistency and optimism go hand in hand. Especially on those days when you would rather Netflix and chill. Choosing to take consistent action every day and work on at least one small work related task, will get you that much closer to achieving your ultimate goals. Even if it’s just doing one Instagram post ;). So when the going gets tough, and you just want to quit, remember to stay optimistic and remind yourself of all the amazing things you are doing or have already done.
